Ship meme? Ship meme! It's better than being productive. (Note: is not actually better than being productive.)

So I guess there is this meme? And, hey, why not.

You know how sometimes people on your friend's list post about stuff going on in their life, and all of a sudden you think "Wait a minute? Since when are they working THERE? Since when are they dating HIM/HER? since when???" And then you wonder how you could have missed all that seemingly pretty standard information, but somehow you feel too ashamed to ask for clarification because it seems like info you *should* already know? It happens to all of us sometimes.

Having fiiiinally seen the last two episodes of Reaper, I have a few things to say:

1) Awesome.
2) No, seriously, awesome.
3) Steve and Tony? Especially awesome. Tearing-up awesome.
4) Ahem. Okay. TV, I would like to have a talk with you. I could deal with Heroes. I could deal with Supernatural. Retroactively, I can say that I dealt with Dexter. Pushing Daisies was kind of a surprise, but hey, it wasn't like it was a ship or anything, and besides, I'm sure it will all be explained next season. But now? This is too many. Five shows is too many for this. So what I'm really saying is, STOP IT WITH THE INCEST I GET THE FREAKING POINT ALREADY OH MY GOD.
5) *deep breath*
6) No, seriously. Beyond the obvious, even. Beyond my corrupt little mind. Remember Cady? I think her name was Cady, anyway. Remember how she was the Devil's daughter? Now remember who was dating her? Yeah. Yeah, that ain't just the warped minds of the internet. That shit is canon, probably because they just forgot about it, but hey.
7) FIVE SHOWS NOW. SERIOUSLY.

Hot motherfucking damn.

....I'm going to have to get up at, like, 6 AM to get into this, aren't I.

You know, since I'm mentioning Heroes again, I might as well ramble a bit about it. It's weird--I'm so completely into Doctor Who right now that Heroes feels like a foreign entity, something that isn't really connected to me any more, which is almost certainly due to there being no new episodes of Heroes compared to there being eleventy million new (well, to me, anyway) episodes of Doctor Who, but it's still very, very weird. I'm not reading Heroes fic at all any more--even if I see a rec, I just shrug and ignore it. (Whereas I'm devouring Doctor Who recs as if they were delicious pancakes, of course.) And yet, I still wear my helix-symbol necklace every day (shut up), and it's not like I don't like the show any more. It just...isn't a priority, right now.

And then I watch the Sawatte! Kawatte! vid again and something deep down in my heart flails a bit and I realize that, oh yes, it's still there. It's just lurking. Waiting for its chance to strike. And--if all goes well--on July 22nd, it'll finally get its chance.

...*wonders if she can finish the majority of Doctor Who by then*

(Speaking of Doctor Who: hey, I just noticed something. This week's episode, apparently, will be the 200th episode of the series.

...I'm sure they're not going to do anything big at all.)

Since I've finally gotten back into writing, after a few false starts (we shall not discuss the 3:10 to Yuma story, nor the Zodiac story, nor especially the Due South/Heroes crossover story), and I'm even taking a nostalgia trip by taking a good look at an even older unfinished story and thinking, "hey, I could totally finish this*", I've logically got writing on my mind, so I shall end this run-on sentence by introducing a meme that seems to be going around:

Ask me a question about one of my fics. It can be absolutely anything in any fic and I will tell you the honest-to-god answer. I can't promise that it'll be interesting, but you'll get a peek into my cracktastic mind!

*I threw an extra thousand words or so on it, pushing it over the 10k mark, but then I remembered why I hadn't finished it--because "finishing this" requires me to, er, write porn--so maybe you will not be seeing the final thing soon, but hey, it's a start! It helps that this is the fic I'm most ashamed for not finishing. I mean, somebody actually paid for it...

Tagged by [info]shizuka_blooms : List seven songs you are into right now. No matter what the genre, whether they have words, or even if they're not any good, but they must be songs you're really enjoying now, shaping your spring. Post these instructions in your LJ along with your seven songs. Then tag seven other people to see what they're listening to.

Oh, gosh. Let's see. Music, music, music...*ponders*

1) Fiona Apple - "Tymps (The Sick in the Head Song)"
Those boom times went bust
My feet of clay, they dried to dust
The red isn't the red we painted
Its just rust
And the signature thing
That used to bring a following
I have trouble now

Even remembering

I get the majority of my music off of fanmixes. This came from one for Mylar. I like it! It is surprisingly bouncy. Also, I totally did not know it was Fiona Apple; her name does not appear anywhere on the file, so I thought it was by some band called Tymps. I fail at knowing things about music.

2) No Doubt - "Bathwater"
I still love to wash in your old bathwater
Make me feel like I couldn't love another
I can't help it... you're my kind of man

I can't remember where I got this, but it's another sneakily bouncy song. I like bouncy! I also like sneaky.

3) Garbage - "The World Is Not Enough"
The world is not enough
But it is such a perfect place to start, my love
And if you're strong enough
Together we can take the world apart, my love

Moar Mylar. I think. Maybe. Or maybe I just associate it with Mylar, which would make sense. And I am being sneaky and combining this with Chris Cornell's "You Know My Name", because 1) they are both Bond movie songs and 2) I associate both of them with Sylar. (And also the Master, but we're going to get to him next.) "You Know My Name", incidentally, is the song that inspired a particularly nasty part of the still-unfinished WWII AU. It's mean. Actually, it was originally going to be used in a Victorian stage magician AU, where it would have been even meaner, but it shifted into something a little more bearable. Dammit, one of these days I really need to get back to that story.

4) Pink - "Cuz I Can"
So I'll cash my checks and place my bets
And hope I'll always win
But even if I don't I'm fucked because
I live a life of sin
But it's alright
I don't give a damn
I don't play your rules I make my own
Tonight
I'll do what I want
Cuz I can
(ice cream, ice cream, we all want ice cream)

I associate this song with the Master. In fact, I sort of want to vid him to it. It's just so...him. (And yes, I have a few ideas as to what the ice cream would be.) Also, bouncy!

5) The Feeling - "I Love It When You Call"
Oh, I-I-I-I-I-I
I'm flipping with a coin that’s got a tail on either side
Oh, I-I-I-I-I-I
I'm gonna be the one who makes you stop and realize
You could have it all
We should have it all

I love it when you call
I love it when you call
I love it when you call
But you never call at all
So what’s the complication it’s only conversation
I love it when you call
But you never call at all

Guess what kind of fanmix I got this song off of? A Master fanmix? Why, yes! I love this song to an unbearable degree. I really, really do. It is probably not even worth mentioning the bounciness at this point.

6) Lemon Demon - "Knife Fight"
Let me tell you something-- I can't be beat
Oh yeah?
Yeah, cause I'm the king of the street
Well guess what man, I'll pin you to the wall
Oh yeah?
Yeah, your knife is way too small
Hey, my knife is super sharp, and that's what counts, I'm gonna make you bleed copious amounts
Yeah, well I'll be sure to thank you right after I shank you

This song, like all Lemon Demon songs, is so ridiculous, and so awesome, and by God, the moment I have enough material for it, I am so making a multi-fandom vid set to this. Knives! Fighting! CAN'T YOU PICTURE IT? (Probably I am the only one who can picture it.)

Man, it's so hard to pick a final song, so I'll just go with something relatively at random:
7) Aqua - "Freaky Friday"
Freaky Friday, things ain't going my way
Everything is gone, my life is a country song
Freaky Friday, go play on the highway
Everything is wrong, what the heck is going on

I, uh. May have originally planned to use this as my Life on Mars vid, and in many ways I think it could still work, but the lyrics repeat too often, and there's really only so many times you can use the clip of him getting hit by the car. So I picked something else. I do love this song, though. Also, I will upload any of these at your request, should you be so interested. And, one last time: BOUNCY!

Oh dude I have to do this meme, this meme was made for me. (That is, if you, like me, have come to the realization that I am kind of really crazy about crossovers. I have plans for at least two more, okay, not mentioning the Supernatural!Petrellis universe. And remember how I kept doing that ten-numbered-characters meme?)

Give me (at least) two characters from different fandoms that you know I'm familiar with and I'll give you a dialogue happening between the two of them. Without justifying how the crossover would work, how their worlds clashed, or how they could even meet each other. Just a silly crossover conversation with no backstory, for fun.

...and, uh, I'm sure you can guess which characters I would maybe like to see a couple times in this. *coughs*

I realize most of you are probably sick of my endlessly talking about Due South--and yes, I realize I haven't talked about Heroes, since, oh, January, what with my sudden obsessions with, respectively, Torchwood, Psych, and Life on Mars, so maybe some of you have been skipping past my posts lately, which is fine, 'cause I do that too; I just want to make some vague acknowledgment that I am aware of how increasingly off-topic I've become. I have no doubt that the Heroes mojo will return in full force once the show does, it's just that there's so much other shiny stuff I've never seen before, and, well, shiny.

I could get all flaily plot-wise with Life on Mars, which is nice, because, y'know, it's cohesively good, and Heroes...somewhat less so. Psych was just fun, and Heroes never really was, except for the odd Hiro moment. (I miss those moments.) Torchwood had both fun and some surprising awesome character stuff, even if overall I think Heroes is the stronger show. Due South is fun, pretty (CKR and Paul Gross for the win, of course, but I'm kind of grooving on Ramona Milano too), and has moments that just make you stare and go "okay, I am 95% positive they would have made out in the next scene if they hadn't gotten distracted", and also it has scarily huge amounts of really great fanfiction all over the internets, which does not help at all. There's nothing quite like a ten-year-old fandom for accumulating stories. (Except, of course, for a fandom that's been around even longer than that; I'm kind of afraid of classic Trek fandom in that regard. I mean, I bet they could fill libraries.) Whereas I have read pretty much 80% of all the Heroes fanfiction I would be interested in. Also, Due South stories are happy and largely angst-free (although I have read a couple short, excellent and rather similar stories that made me want to 1. cry my eyes out and 2. write my own story along those lines, horrible person that I am), without all the problems that come from incest and all that. Why can't Heroes be happy? Oh, right. Drama. We've discussed that.

So, uh, this is my obligatory late-night rambling post; join me next time, when I dive fully over the cliff and post a comprehensive character analysis of Ray Kowalski. What, you think I'm kidding? I'm not kidding. Jesus Christ on a pogo stick. *hangs head*

It gets easier.

Well--sort of. There's a reason I find it hard to read Buffy or Angel stories; even if they're happy, they make me think about things, and maybe it's been months since I saw their respective finales but I still don't want to think about those things. I downloaded an Angel vid, an absolutely brilliant one that summed up the whole series, that made me cry my eyes out, and I kept it on my hard drive but I don't think I'll be watching it again any time soon. And I can't really think of Firefly the same way after I saw Serenity. Joss, honey, you're brilliant, but you frequently make me want to curl up in a corner. Thankfully, you're probably one of a kind. I sure as hell hope so.

I've told you all my story about the two hours between hearing about the second season finale of Heroes and seeing the second season finale of Heroes, and it's actually quite a good story, but unfortunately it does not really apply in this case, because, y'know, the reason it's a good story is because I explained some very good reasons as to why the Heroes writing staff could not possibly be that stupid. Which is great and all if you're talking about Heroes, but I'm not actually talking about Heroes, and, unfortunately, the show that induced me to talk about this...well, it doesn't have that great a track record of "not being stupid". Alas.

It is a well-documented fact that it is a peril to watch a currently-running TV show if the show is prone to large amounts of drama. Again, see Heroes. And Lost, and Battlestar Galactica, and anything by HBO or Joss Whedon. (He's got a new show in development, did you hear? I'm already afraid.) At least with shows that have already ended, well, you know, or you have some idea; you don't live quite on the same edge of your seat. Although I did mention the Buffy and Angel thing. Okay, so it's kind of crap whether or not the show is still running; my point is, you love drama, you have to be prepared to get burned, because drama does not love you. Drama likes to watch you suffer. Sometimes, of course, it makes you ecstatically happy, and sometimes it's so jaw-droppingly brilliant that you know you could never stop watching, but one must always be aware that loving a dramatic TV show is akin to an abusive relationship. And you can't distance yourself from it to numb the pain, either; if you do, you've missed the entire point of a drama. Drama should affect you. If it doesn't, why watch? And if it does, why can't you stop?

Then, of course, there is the quiet joy of watching a show you know will not break your heart; casting shake-ups aside, nobody's ever going to die on House, and while Pushing Daisies may be entirely about death, it's never actually going to kill anyone we care about. In Chuck, the only actual hey-this-character-is-intriguing death, well, he's feeling better, he thinks he'll go for a walk...the Winchester brothers are proven to be immune from permanently kicking it, soul-selling aside (and what, you think that's actually going to do the trick?). I'm not even going to mention the Stargate universe. How high's the count on Daniel again? Seven? Eight? One of the best things about watching Due South is that, well, it's been over for over a decade, I already know how it ends, and I already know it's basically the happiest, slashiest ending ever. Although Due South actually does have its moments of drama and did kill a character and kick two other characters out, but I didn't really care about the dead guy, both of the absentees got appropriate send-offs, and one of the absentees actually came back, so basically I'm just rambling at this point.

And since I'm rambling, I'd like to point out that Doctor Who is starting up again this week, and that is possibly the show most notorious for ripping your heart out without actually killing anyone, which is surprising given the sheer amount of NPC deaths it manages to rack up every episode. Stupid Whoniverse. At least the Sarah Jane Adventures isn't ever going to go dramatic, right? Right? Oh god please tell me I'm right, I don't think I could handle it if I'm not. They're kids, for Christ's sake! Keep your melodramatic claws off them, Russell T Davies!

Anyway, to get back to the very original point of this post: it gets easier. Well--sort of. Rambling helps, actually. Why else did you think I was doing this? To entertain you lot? Yeah, right. I wanted to do that, I'd get back to writing lots of Heroes fic again. Or writing at all again. No, it's my journal, its contents are subject to my whims. So I don't actually need to have a point to all this, because it's late and I'm not sure I've entirely processed some stuff yet and I'd like to get back to my Canadian happy place. So goodnight, y'all, and if you still have no idea what I'm talking about, consider yourself lucky, you bastard. [info]futuresoon out.

Speaking in a purely theoretical manner, mind you, were there to be some sort of ridiculously large picture featuring all the major slash pairings I can think of, 1) would femslash be included, because really I can only think of Buffy/Faith and they'd be very lonely if they were the only ones, and 2) would Captain Jack Harkness have to be there with Ianto, or could he just be there on his own? I mean, I wouldn't really say Jack/Ianto is one of the largest pairings out there, but it would be unforgivable to not include Jack.

(This is about 80% theoretical, mind. I'm not nearly comfortable enough with my art abilities to do it yet, and also I've kind of never drawn, oh, almost all of them. Still, I've actually got quite a good list so far: Kirk/Spock, Starsky/Hutch (let it never be said that I cannot go old-school), Jim/Blair, Fraser/RayK, Mulder/Krycek, Angel/Spike, Jack/Daniel, John/Rodney, Doctor/Master, Clark/Lex, Sam/Gene, Sam/Dean, Nathan/Peter, House/Wilson, and wasn't there some Highlander pairing or another? I would prefer not to leave things out just because I'm utterly unfamiliar with them. It must be comprehensive. So, if there's anything I've missed, feel free to chime in.)

Oh, and: no, I haven't forgotten about the latest episodes of Torchwood; I've been a bit incredibly busy, so I haven't bothered to write anything up about them, but I shall make a post combining all of them probably sometime in the following week. Let me just say that I loved 'A Day in the Death', was pleasantly surprised by 'Something Borrowed', thought 'Out of the Rain' had so much more potential than what they gave it, don't actually have very much to say about 'Adrift' at all, and am torn between quite liking some parts of 'Fragments' and narrowing my eyes at others. Don't you fucking do that to UNIT, Chris Chibnall. I barely know them and I'm still defensive of them.

Right. Off to go read more porn about a character I haven't met yet. Ta!

Tags:carnivale, heroes, i rec stuff, omg i can write fanfiction, omg other characters, omg petrellis, the prestige, writing is hard sometimes

So, way back when I was just starting out in Heroes fandom, one of my Big Awesome Ideas was to do a Victorian Magicians' Troupe AU, you know, like The Prestige, only...less obfuscatory. I even got 5000 words on it! I was very proud. Then I realized I had no idea where it was going and also it was very, very repetitive. So I did the obvious thing: abandon it, and start over with a 1930's Carnival Troupe AU! You know, like Carnivale, only...less creepy. I got about 1500 words on that and then I ditched both projects because they suffered the same problems and also I had no idea how to write about either time period. But, you know, I still like the ideas, and who knows, maybe I'll get back to the first one someday. Except I can now never get back to the second one, because someone has now done it themselves, and they actually did rather a good job of it, so, well, at least I'll never have to feel guilty about it again. (At some point I might put them up, just for kicks, not posted to communities or anything. They had some good concepts, anyway.) Check it out! Like I said, it really is pretty good.

So, I pretty much still love my drama group more than most other aspects of my life, possibly because we are so danged awesome, but possibly also because, through an interesting twist of conversation, I can get a guy to say, "Yeah, we're all gonna get laid! Unprotected sex! (raises hand for high-five from Other Guy) Other Guy, gimme some of that!"

And the best thing is, he had no idea what he said until I pointed it out to him.

Also, because I can get into conversation with a girl, remember that she once referred to herself as a "computer girl", remember that she reads fantasy novels, mention these things to her, ask her "So, are you familiar with...fandom?", and get into a long and very happy conversation on the subject. I mean, she mostly hangs around The Pit, and she prefers not to read porn, but she seems quite intelligent and reasonable. And she is just friggin' adorable. Seriously, she actually looks like a tiny Disney princess. Granted, the medieval garb and hairstyle adopted for the play might help with this, but it fits so well with her. She's like a pretty little pixie! And this marks the first time I have ever actually admitted just what the most acknowledged pairing in the Heroes fandom is (she doesn't watch it, but she's amenable towards it), and while she initially got very wide-eyed and giggly, a further description of why it's the most acknowledged made her admit that it did sound intriguing. Mostly she's an FFVII girl, apparently, though she got her start in Harry Potter. Really, what modern fangirl didn't get her start in Harry Potter? So we don't really share any fandoms, and she finds LJ hard to navigate, but still. Ally.

Cannot watch Torchwood until Sunday. Wargle. Apparently Reaper is back, which, on one hand, yay, but on the other hand, am two episodes behind and will only become more so. But then, there are only a few episodes left anyway, so it may not be that big a deal. Also, am attempting to find Blackpool, because, er, one of my fangirl-converts watched all of it through Youtube and demands that I and another girl watch it with her on an actual television. I should feel vaguely embarrassed that one of my disciples has reached farther than I, but really, it's kind of awesome.

(Cannot stop listening to Life on Mars soundtrack. SEND HELP)

I remember that it is March, and then I remember that way back when I posted my first fic it was March, so I look it up, and, oh hey, tomorrow is the one-year anniversary of my second (decent) fic ever (my first was a couple weeks ago). Freeeeaky. But you know what is even better? In those fifty-four weeks since my first fic, there have been seventeen new episodes. That's, uh, less than 33% of the time. I find it very strange to think about how starting in September, there is going to be a new season, with new episodes, and not just eleven, oh no, this time we get twenty-five, and the ratio will go up significantly and it will still be very freaky because, dude, it's been over a year wtf. I would like to point out that this has been a hella awesome year. Hella. For serious, becoming an active part of fandom has really changed my life, and I wouldn't trade it for the world. The world's kind of a messy place, anyway. Fandom's less complicated. (And yes, I know that may be a hilarious thing to say, but shut up, my fandom experience has been overwhelmingly positive and joyful so far. This may be because I tend to stay in the secluded, pairing-specific areas, but I still like it.)

On a semi-related note, relatively soon it will also have been a year since I joined the theoretically elite ranks of the paid account users, so I would like to know if anyone knows that the extra-icon bonus (which I got back at Christmas and will not expire for a while yet) sticks around after reverting to a basic account? Although I don't know if we actually get to revert back to basic any more, what with basic accounts having gone the way of the dodo or something. Ads. Feh.

A thing which you may wish to know: out of the kindness of my heart and the desire to squash that little nagging urge of perfectionism, I have gone back and reworked Not Dead Yet into an Actually Definitive Ultimate Version Which Does Not Have Timing Issues Unlike The Last Actually Definitive Ultimate Version. So here it is. And I've updated the original post with the link, too. I won't put it on Youtube, because that might be a bit confusing and I'm content to let the original sit there, but I figured I might as well make it available for the general public. It's like an HD DVD! The original ain't going anywhere, it's just that the shiny new version is also available. Only I think we probably have to say "Blu-Ray" instead of "HD-DVD" now, but my point still stands.

And now, the obligatory Revealing of the Meme.

1) Sam Tyler - guessed by [info]swingerzetta and [info]cosmicavatar
2) Dean Winchester - guessed by [info]47_trek_47, [info]cosmicavatar, and [info]shizuka_blooms
3) Shawn Spencer - guessed by [info]bats_eye and [info]shizuka_blooms
4) The Almighty and Long-suffering Impala - guessed by [info]cosmicavatar and [info]shizuka_blooms
5) Angela Petrelli - guessed by [info]cosmicavatar and [info]shizuka_blooms
6) Juliet O' Hara - guessed by nobody, but then, I suppose she doesn't actually stand out much if you're not actively thinking of her, and she's new to my list
7) Ianto Jones, also guessed by nobody, possibly because he doesn't go much for being showy and distinctive.
8) Monica Dawson - guessed by [info]harena, [info]cosmicavatar, [info]angiepenguin, and [info]shizuka_blooms
9) Cut-Throat Bitch, also known as Amber Volakis - guessed by [info]cosmicavatar and [info]shizuka_blooms
10) Test Card Girl, also known as WTF CREEPY CLOWN DOLL GIRL - guessed by [info]swingerzetta and [info]cosmicavatar

Yeah, so, maybe a few of mine were a bit obscure. But I was running out of Heroes characters. (Someone suggested 3 might be Bela, which--ahahahaha, would be a so very interesting meeting. Poor Shawn. )
