selenak, I don't know if you've seen this yet, but it is right up your alley--(Boulevard of) Broken Dreams, a DW vid that takes four different songs--one for Rose, one for Martha, one for Runaway Bride Donna, and a bit of one for the Doctor--and melds them all together completely brilliantly, and it's just wonderful and perfect and *flails*. harena, swingerzetta, any of the others here who watch Doctor Who--this is just awesome. (And it made me tear up a little, which I will always consider to be a bonus.) Great props to dodificus for reccing it in the first place.

Remember my desire to associate Avril Lavigne's 'Girlfriend' with the Master? Of course you do. Then you must be unspeakably thrilled to know that rionaleonhart has keyed me in to the fact that a vid for such actually exists, and it is unbelievably awesome, even if the vidder had to leave it unfinished due to a sudden attack of taste. (Fie, I say. A proper vidder should have no such thing.) In any case, behold, one of the greatest things that this or any other world has created.

Probably I should have linked this earlier, but, for the Whofans here who aren't part of the fandom at large and thus might not have heard of this--some unparalleled genius listened to Skullcrusher Mountain, perhaps too many times, and thought "why, yes! This song is totally the Master's big dorky evil declaration of love to the Doctor!", and then they made this, which is just too awesome for words:
It features both New Who and Old Who, so-- swingerzetta , I'm looking at you--if you're familiar with the former but not the latter, it's actually still very watchable, as long as you know the dynamic. And if you know the song, well, you're pretty much golden. (The bit about the half-pony half-monkey monster, in particular, will just make you cackle.)

Also: artemisfowl2nd, if I have judged your taste and experience in classic animated movies correctly, you may find this to be endlessly amusing. Or confusing but funny anyway, as I view it.

Okay so this is pretty much the best thing ever. If you like Doctor Who. And if you think the Doctor's current set of girls would be total BFFs. But really, if you are the first thing, you really should be the second thing, because it's a much happier mindset than wanting to pit them against each other in some kind of catfight. (Not that Sarah Jane would lower herself to do such a thing, although I'm pretty sure she could take someone's eye out if she really wanted. Never underestimate the middle-aged lady with the lovely smile and pleasant disposition, yo.) Vague spoilers for S4, I suppose, but you may have clicked the link already, so there may not be much point in saying it.

Also, did anyone else think Guest Star looked rather like Sally Sparrow? I think she did. And, because I feel like sharing, have a link to a silly little Doctor Who vid. Oh, Ten. You shameless accidental man-whore. AND ANOTHER ONE. Less of Ten being a shameless accidental man-whore, more of the Master being the star of a Disney movie. No, seriously. Check it out.

What's that sound? That's the sound of remixredux08 unveiling its names--so I can finally say with no impunity whatsoever that I wrote Love, Angie (The Postscript Remix), taken from trascendenza's Love, Angie, and thank you, trascendenza, for such a lovely story to work with in the first place! I knew the moment I found it that it had to be my remix, and now I can proudly say that I've written all four of the primary Petrellis, whee *g* So, basically, all I have to do now is write something about Simon and Monty, and I am set.

I decided to go ahead and upload all the songs from the last meme, so, if you are so inclined, head back to the post in question; I assure you, listening to 'I Love It When You Call' will not fail to improve your day. Unless you do not like it, I guess, but I am having difficulty picturing that. SO ANYWAY.
And does anyone else think the "the bees are going missing" thing is going to become inexplicably significant? They've mentioned it twice now. This season's Bad Wolf, Y/N?

remixredux08 is live, baby! And you know what that means? That means I finally get to read mine, oh my god. So I head over there, and I'm scrolling down the tags list at the side to get to original author: futuresoon, but before I get there, I see character: bryce larkin, and I think, naaaah, there's gotta be someone else who wrote a Chuck story, I only had the two...but no, my remixer totally remixed Things Bryce Larkin Knows, and they remixed it awesomely. It's more of a sequel, really--but then, there wasn't much of an actual story to work with, just a general concept, and my wonderful mysterious remixer got the feel of it perfectly. Check it out, now: Things I Never Did On My Summer Vacation, by Bryce Larkin (The Email-Italics Remix)
And, while you're at it, see if you can find the one I remixed. *shifty eyes* IF YOU CAN. (I do not think it is that hard to find, really. But you never know.)

If you enjoyed Due South in Fifteen Minutes, or you are already familiar with the show, and you like things that are fun, silly, and catchy, I can only recommend checking out the vid Goody Two Shoes by laurashapiro and pipsqueaky; it is, in fact, all of those things, and I don't think you need any knowledge more than what you get from DS15M to enjoy it. It also has the bonus of including both Rays, which is nice. (And yes, it also shows that the two Rays actually do get to meet, in the finale; let me tell you, it is epic. Hint hint.) And you will find no greater summation of Fraser's love affair with gravity. Be warned that the song will get stuck in your head allll daaaaay loooooong.

So, way back when I was just starting out in Heroes fandom, one of my Big Awesome Ideas was to do a Victorian Magicians' Troupe AU, you know, like The Prestige, only...less obfuscatory. I even got 5000 words on it! I was very proud. Then I realized I had no idea where it was going and also it was very, very repetitive. So I did the obvious thing: abandon it, and start over with a 1930's Carnival Troupe AU! You know, like Carnivale, only...less creepy. I got about 1500 words on that and then I ditched both projects because they suffered the same problems and also I had no idea how to write about either time period. But, you know, I still like the ideas, and who knows, maybe I'll get back to the first one someday. Except I can now never get back to the second one, because someone has now done it themselves, and they actually did rather a good job of it, so, well, at least I'll never have to feel guilty about it again. (At some point I might put them up, just for kicks, not posted to communities or anything. They had some good concepts, anyway.) Check it out! Like I said, it really is pretty good.

DAD: How do you cure a zombie? ME: How? DAD: Stick it in the smokehouse.
And while we're talking about my family, today, I was brave enough to actually rec a Torchwood story to my mom--it's gen (yes, I know what gen means for Torchwood, but this is PG gen), it's silly as hell, and it is almost certainly the most literally lolarious Torchwood story there is. Warning: contains Internet humor (and spoilers for 2x07, 'Dead Man Walking'): Trying to Communicate, by sam_storyteller. My mom loved it, by the way.
(Also, my journalism teacher requires us to put together portfolios of whatever we did for the last issue of the paper, and then she puts a little slip of comments in them; today, I received a comment slip that for some reason or another referred to her young daughters, and it mentioned that all they do these days is watch Top Gear. Now, I did not get a chance to actually ask her about this, because it seems like the most illogical thing in the world, and I am betting I simply misunderstood or she mistyped or there is another Top Gear out there which is not a UK-only show about cars and sarcasm, or maybe her daughters are the coolest kids ever. Given that their parents watch Torchwood and Doctor Who, I am not entirely convinced that the latter option is impossible.)

Psych 1x07, 'Shawn vs. the Red Phantom': is every show required to have an episode with a comic book convention? At least Entourage had the courage to admit it actually was Comicon. Anyway, comics, cool, actually a fairly realistic portrayal, cool, OH MY GOD JULIET'S A GEEK THAT IS AWESOME AND WILL ALMOST CERTAINLY NEVER BE MENTIONED AGAIN, aww, Lassiter, oh hey it's Zelenka! Nifty! Guy sounds weird without the accent. To the point where I am not entirely sure it's him. Does David Nykl have a twin? Evil or otherwise?
In related news, I think I've developed this weird reaction to fanfiction where I can't help wondering what non-fandom-people would think of it; I'm still not entirely used to the concept of being, er, completely and totally okay with actively talking about sexuality, which 1) makes reading porn kind of interesting and 2) makes me totally paranoid that everyone else is in the same boat as I am and if I rec something which contains sex people will think I am totally weird*. I have to keep reminding myself that no, this is fandom, most of the people here are even crazier than you are and will assume that stories that don't contain sex are weird. Which leads me to what I was actually intending to say in the first place, which was: I really do love Yuletide to bits, because when I don't know where to look for stories I can amble over there and run into stuff like What Happens In Freedom Stays In Freedom, a great Shawn/Lassiter piece with an actual plot which, while containing rather more sex toys than I expected, does not actually make use of any, for which I am eternally grateful, because despite my expanding sense of sexuality, I really do not want to read that, and also it really really would not work with the pairing anyway, and I just wrote a sentence which includes five uses of the word 'which', which is very odd but, all things considered, not really all that odd for me. I like 'which'. It's a good word. It's right up there with the semicolon and the dash for me. Anyway, the story's great, it's hilarious, and it's...kind of hot THERE I SAID IT OH MY GOD I CAN ACTUALLY SAY THESE THINGS NOW. *exhales*
*I realize that I say this as a person who has not only written sex scenes but been complimented on them. I NEVER SAID THIS WAS LOGICAL.

CANNOT STOP BLATHERING ON ABOUT LIFE ON MARS, SEND HELP
First, a little rec, because I did finally find a few good fics out there (there are more, I'm sure, but I'm always a bit leery of treading into a new fandom): I am pretty certain this makes me a horrible person, because I found this story to be absolutely hilarious, though it was probably meant to be a bit unsettling. It's called Not Like That, it's short, maybe PG-13, and the best summary I can give is: Sam's a battered wife. HILARIOUS, NO?
Secondly, I totally started drawing this well over a week ago, so it's not entirely part of the latest round of madness. Really. You can check my archives if you like. It's the first thing I drew on my shiny new laptop, which, well, probably says something about me. "How can I test out my tablet? GUYS KISSING."
(It is also the first kiss I've drawn that I vaguely like, even though it certainly has its flaws.)

So, uh, ahahahah oh my god, apparently the Heroes Slash Awards hit me up for both Best Nathan/Peter (G-PG13), for Develop, and Best Nathan/Peter (R-NC17), for the BDPS, and...well, uh. Okay, I'm going to be egotistical and say that I totally deserved the first one, but I did not deserve the last one. The BDPS, while lovely and long, isn't my strongest story by any means, and it's certainly nowhere near as well-done as, say, A Tiny Platform or Lethe's Shore, neither of which won anything, which--buh? Those are two of the most well-put-together stories I've seen in fandom period, not just in the last six months of Heroes, and they sure as hell deserved something, but...eh, that's the way awards go. Would've been nice to see 47_trek_47 get some love too, though. But now, let's focus on more of the positive: congrats, indyhat, fiorediloto, fantasticpants, selenak, entangled_now, mystery_sock, and all the others who did a damn fine job--and color me deeply amused that the_sc_files got Best Gen, because sure, why not, a story where Peter has lascivious (and horrifying) dreams about Nathan is definitely gen material. Such is life. But then, you know, these are fanfiction awards on the ephemeral Internets; they aren't meant to be taken terribly seriously. It's just for fun. So, in conclusion: hey, sweet, I got an award I deserved, and so did other people! *blows noise-maker*
(And I got a tied runner-up for Best N/P (G-PG13) for It's Sort Of Like Voyeurism, In That It's Exactly Like Voyeurism, which I also find amusing for a number of reasons, not least of which is that the fic it's tied with is one by hackthis, and, uh, at this point I kind of want to cower in a corner because I'm freaking out a little over winning against both her and linaerys, the writers I practically worshiped when I came into the fandom, and it feels like I'm going to be struck by lightning at any moment for my hubris. Truly, it is not easy having yourself a good time.)

Dammit, I want porn. Okay, maybe not really smutty and overly-detailed porn, but I feel like I haven't read a decent sex scene in forever, and this is very strange to me, because I am not really a porn person. I tend to skip past it when it shows up--I have a very specific set of parameters when it comes to sex scenes, and it is hard to find stuff that falls under all of them. It goes: no adjectives or descriptions (some adjectives are okay, but I suspect you can probably guess what I am talking about when it comes to descriptions), nothing particularly kinky (psychological kink, now, that I can get behind, so to speak), must have some kind of plausible build-up and emotional resonance (not as hard to find as the others, but still, not everything has enough of it), and must make some part of me go all wibbly (the hardest to categorize, naturally); needless to say, I'm picky as hell and this makes me kind of sad, because when I really want to find some porn, I can't find any I like. So. I'm lazy. Rec me something. To give you a vague idea of what I do like, well, these are my two stand-bys: entangled_now's Paper and Ink and Unique Sins, which, while both needing visits from the Comma Fairy and both being PG-13, never fail to get me. It may be the unrequited thing. I really, really like the unrequited thing. And see, for me, those are hot, even though neither of them contain much in the way of actual sex; they've got the right level of emotions and characterization with just a little bit of sex, and that makes for a very happy futuresoon. I'm just weird that way.
Of course, none of these rules apply to fics for Live Free or Die Hard, for some reason, so don't rec me anything from there (if any of you even know the fandom); I've already read them all. Seriously. It's a small fandom and once I realized the rules didn't apply, I devoured everything it had and continue to do so. I should probably see the movie at some point. Anyway. If you think you know anything that might fit, send it my way, or even if you think it might sort of fit; I'm really craving Nathan/Peter at the moment, but I suspect some decent Mylar or Plaude would not go amiss, or unrequited!Adam/Hiro, or Bryce/Chuck, or any other pairing you think I'd like. Or House/Kutner. But there isn't any. I checked. There is none. The world doesn't know a good thing when it sees it, I swear.
(Interestingly enough, the anti-LFODH for me is SGA; I pretty much reject porn of any kind from there, regardless of whether it fits into my categories or not. I have not, as of yet, figured out why this is. It may have something to do with not really considering McKay all that attractive, but given how fervently I support the pairing in general--hah, it says something about the SGA fandom that I don't even have to specify what "the pairing" is--I really don't know.)
Another rec in general, because I was re-reading this while I realized I was really craving some porn: thebratqueen's A Tiny Platform, which was written after the first episode of the second season of Heroes but before the second episode of the second season, and thus has been Jossed to a truly spectacular degree, and is pretty much insanely awesome on every conceivable level, and is technically NC-17 but only because of approximately 200 words, exactly two of which could be considered dirty (not counting the swear words), and is the kind of thing that just makes a fan of (temporarily)unrequited!emotionallyresonant!characterization!notparticularlydetailed!sex go wild. My point being: look, I just gave you stuff, now you give me stuff. It's only fair.

Oh, man. The ever-wonderful selenak is running a Six Degrees of Separation meme--basically, name two characters from two different fandoms and she'll write a series of drabbles connecting them--and I asked for Peter Petrelli and Martha Jones, and, augh, she gave me the most wonderful and heart-wrenching thing ever. What do you think the Heroes cast was up to during the missing year? I got chills up my spine all through this, and I even teared up at the end--if you like Doctor Who, and you like Heroes, this cannot be missed. Seriously. Go, now.

Finally finished sending in my votes for the Heroes Slash Awards! I accomplished this by 1) skipping the categories that made me leery, 2) learning how to identify the noms I shouldn't bother reading simply by checking out the first few sentences, and 3) occasionally voting on certain stories just for the spite of it. The Suitcase Files for Best Gen? WHY NOT. If I can be surprised/horrified/deeply, deeply amused about winning an award that makes no sense whatsoever, SO CAN THEY.
(Be forewarned, people who click the above link--it may start out simply looking a bit silly, but it becomes a horrible monster of inexplicably awesome crack. It is at once deeply embarrassing and utterly hysterical, and, like the sidebar says, it will CHANGE YOUR LIFE. Also it's the only Gabriel/Peter* story I've ever really liked, though it may help that they're sixteen** and caught in the midsts of Crackland. Why wasn't this nominated for Best Crack? The world is a mysterious place.)
*Really only subtexty, but still, man, not what I'd call gen, plus there are definite Peter/Nathan bits...also 'gen' has certain connotations of being respectable and intriguing and nonsexual, which, well, ahahahahhaha no.
*Although I like to pretend they're actually fourteen, because, er, I remember being sixteen, and I remember what other people were like when they were sixteen, and even in Crackland, sixteen-year-olds...do not really act like that. Fourteen-year-olds, though, totally do. So: fourteen. Yes.

Sweet holy fuck, the Heroes Slash Awards are up again and there is no way in hell I am going to be able to read all those. It is times like this that I realize just how freakishly popular Mylar and Matt/Mohinder are--I'd say they easily comprise 70% of the noms. But I shall persevere. (And skip most of them.) I definitely encourage you to go out there and at least read and vote for some of them; there's a lot of great stuff out there, and I find it to be awesome that selenak's Dreaming made it to the list of Best Molly Characterization, because that's an awesome, awesome story and she deserves the ego boost. (Can you guess which one I'm voting for in that category? I'm sure it's a total mystery.) I got a few noms myself--Best Overall for El Laberinto del Destino, which surprised the hell out of me, Best Crossover for the House crossover, which did not really surprise me at all, Best Epic for the BDPS, and, er, well, in Best Nathan/Peter (G-PG13), I appear to be going up against myself--twice, with Develop; It's Sort of Like Voyeurism, In That It's Exactly Like Voyeurism; and Five Crimes the Petrelli Brothers Said They Didn't Commit (And One They Really Didn't). Also the BDPS for Best Nathan/Peter (R-NC-17). Er. Wow. Pretty good birthday present, this.
I'm not going to tell you to vote for me, although you certainly can if you want to, because I'm up against some serious competition* (even if some of that competition is myself); so again, I encourage you to go read the other stuff and make the best judgment you can. And that's all for now. Go. Read.
*I'm up against Lethe's Shore! In two different categories! Oh god, I'm so dead.

Oh my god, I know that none of you will have even the slightest chance of knowing this or even knowing what I'm talking about, but I cannot find that one Scrubs fic where JD gets handcuffed to a radiator and this distresses me to a rather odd degree because someone on my flist asked for Scrubs recs and that is one of the best Scrubs stories ever (also: despite being PG, one of the strangely hottest things I've ever read, which may go some way into explaining why I don't actually read very much porn--I prefer the vague stuff) and I cannot find it wauuuuugh.
In other news, there really isn't any other news. Goodnight. Augh.
