Hey so remember when I said I wasn't going to take a picture of my Master and Doctor action figures in an interesting position? Here's the picture I didn't take, plus a few others, including me omg. You can see my face! And my hair! I rather like my hair. I'm very proud of it.
Right. Homework. Notes on the foreign policy of North Korea. Can I just put "N/A" and get away with it? Probably not.

HEY LOOK I'M TALKING ABOUT HEROES AGAIN, THE WORLD AS I KNOW IT HAS BEEN IRREVOCABLY SHATTERED
We have promo, people! Very vague, nothing-we-didn't-already-know promo, but hey!
Also, 3 HOUR PREMIERE WHAT. That could either be very, very cool or very, very overwrought. *crosses fingers that the writers are merely trying to make up for the lack from last season* Either way, I'm glad I won't be watching it on a high school schedule, because I might be able to actually stay up late enough to watch it. Unless it starts at 7. But anyway. 3 HOUR PREMIERE WHAT.

Tagged by shizuka_blooms : List seven songs you are into right now. No matter what the genre, whether they have words, or even if they're not any good, but they must be songs you're really enjoying now, shaping your spring. Post these instructions in your LJ along with your seven songs. Then tag seven other people to see what they're listening to.
Oh, gosh. Let's see. Music, music, music...*ponders*
1) Fiona Apple - "Tymps (The Sick in the Head Song)" Those boom times went bust My feet of clay, they dried to dust The red isn't the red we painted Its just rust And the signature thing That used to bring a following I have trouble now Even remembering
I get the majority of my music off of fanmixes. This came from one for Mylar. I like it! It is surprisingly bouncy. Also, I totally did not know it was Fiona Apple; her name does not appear anywhere on the file, so I thought it was by some band called Tymps. I fail at knowing things about music.
2) No Doubt - "Bathwater" I still love to wash in your old bathwater Make me feel like I couldn't love another I can't help it... you're my kind of man
I can't remember where I got this, but it's another sneakily bouncy song. I like bouncy! I also like sneaky.
3) Garbage - "The World Is Not Enough" The world is not enough But it is such a perfect place to start, my love And if you're strong enough Together we can take the world apart, my love
Moar Mylar. I think. Maybe. Or maybe I just associate it with Mylar, which would make sense. And I am being sneaky and combining this with Chris Cornell's "You Know My Name", because 1) they are both Bond movie songs and 2) I associate both of them with Sylar. (And also the Master, but we're going to get to him next.) "You Know My Name", incidentally, is the song that inspired a particularly nasty part of the still-unfinished WWII AU. It's mean. Actually, it was originally going to be used in a Victorian stage magician AU, where it would have been even meaner, but it shifted into something a little more bearable. Dammit, one of these days I really need to get back to that story.
4) Pink - "Cuz I Can" So I'll cash my checks and place my bets And hope I'll always win But even if I don't I'm fucked because I live a life of sin But it's alright I don't give a damn I don't play your rules I make my own Tonight I'll do what I want Cuz I can (ice cream, ice cream, we all want ice cream)
I associate this song with the Master. In fact, I sort of want to vid him to it. It's just so...him. (And yes, I have a few ideas as to what the ice cream would be.) Also, bouncy!
5) The Feeling - "I Love It When You Call" Oh, I-I-I-I-I-I I'm flipping with a coin that’s got a tail on either side Oh, I-I-I-I-I-I I'm gonna be the one who makes you stop and realize You could have it all We should have it all
I love it when you call I love it when you call I love it when you call But you never call at all So what’s the complication it’s only conversation I love it when you call But you never call at all
Guess what kind of fanmix I got this song off of? A Master fanmix? Why, yes! I love this song to an unbearable degree. I really, really do. It is probably not even worth mentioning the bounciness at this point.
6) Lemon Demon - "Knife Fight" Let me tell you something-- I can't be beat Oh yeah? Yeah, cause I'm the king of the street Well guess what man, I'll pin you to the wall Oh yeah? Yeah, your knife is way too small Hey, my knife is super sharp, and that's what counts, I'm gonna make you bleed copious amounts Yeah, well I'll be sure to thank you right after I shank you
This song, like all Lemon Demon songs, is so ridiculous, and so awesome, and by God, the moment I have enough material for it, I am so making a multi-fandom vid set to this. Knives! Fighting! CAN'T YOU PICTURE IT? (Probably I am the only one who can picture it.)
Man, it's so hard to pick a final song, so I'll just go with something relatively at random: 7) Aqua - "Freaky Friday" Freaky Friday, things ain't going my way Everything is gone, my life is a country song Freaky Friday, go play on the highway Everything is wrong, what the heck is going on
I, uh. May have originally planned to use this as my Life on Mars vid, and in many ways I think it could still work, but the lyrics repeat too often, and there's really only so many times you can use the clip of him getting hit by the car. So I picked something else. I do love this song, though. Also, I will upload any of these at your request, should you be so interested. And, one last time: BOUNCY!

I realize most of you are probably sick of my endlessly talking about Due South--and yes, I realize I haven't talked about Heroes, since, oh, January, what with my sudden obsessions with, respectively, Torchwood, Psych, and Life on Mars, so maybe some of you have been skipping past my posts lately, which is fine, 'cause I do that too; I just want to make some vague acknowledgment that I am aware of how increasingly off-topic I've become. I have no doubt that the Heroes mojo will return in full force once the show does, it's just that there's so much other shiny stuff I've never seen before, and, well, shiny.
I could get all flaily plot-wise with Life on Mars, which is nice, because, y'know, it's cohesively good, and Heroes...somewhat less so. Psych was just fun, and Heroes never really was, except for the odd Hiro moment. (I miss those moments.) Torchwood had both fun and some surprising awesome character stuff, even if overall I think Heroes is the stronger show. Due South is fun, pretty (CKR and Paul Gross for the win, of course, but I'm kind of grooving on Ramona Milano too), and has moments that just make you stare and go "okay, I am 95% positive they would have made out in the next scene if they hadn't gotten distracted", and also it has scarily huge amounts of really great fanfiction all over the internets, which does not help at all. There's nothing quite like a ten-year-old fandom for accumulating stories. (Except, of course, for a fandom that's been around even longer than that; I'm kind of afraid of classic Trek fandom in that regard. I mean, I bet they could fill libraries.) Whereas I have read pretty much 80% of all the Heroes fanfiction I would be interested in. Also, Due South stories are happy and largely angst-free (although I have read a couple short, excellent and rather similar stories that made me want to 1. cry my eyes out and 2. write my own story along those lines, horrible person that I am), without all the problems that come from incest and all that. Why can't Heroes be happy? Oh, right. Drama. We've discussed that.
So, uh, this is my obligatory late-night rambling post; join me next time, when I dive fully over the cliff and post a comprehensive character analysis of Ray Kowalski. What, you think I'm kidding? I'm not kidding. Jesus Christ on a pogo stick. *hangs head*

So, way back when I was just starting out in Heroes fandom, one of my Big Awesome Ideas was to do a Victorian Magicians' Troupe AU, you know, like The Prestige, only...less obfuscatory. I even got 5000 words on it! I was very proud. Then I realized I had no idea where it was going and also it was very, very repetitive. So I did the obvious thing: abandon it, and start over with a 1930's Carnival Troupe AU! You know, like Carnivale, only...less creepy. I got about 1500 words on that and then I ditched both projects because they suffered the same problems and also I had no idea how to write about either time period. But, you know, I still like the ideas, and who knows, maybe I'll get back to the first one someday. Except I can now never get back to the second one, because someone has now done it themselves, and they actually did rather a good job of it, so, well, at least I'll never have to feel guilty about it again. (At some point I might put them up, just for kicks, not posted to communities or anything. They had some good concepts, anyway.) Check it out! Like I said, it really is pretty good.

A thing which you may wish to know: out of the kindness of my heart and the desire to squash that little nagging urge of perfectionism, I have gone back and reworked Not Dead Yet into an Actually Definitive Ultimate Version Which Does Not Have Timing Issues Unlike The Last Actually Definitive Ultimate Version. So here it is. And I've updated the original post with the link, too. I won't put it on Youtube, because that might be a bit confusing and I'm content to let the original sit there, but I figured I might as well make it available for the general public. It's like an HD DVD! The original ain't going anywhere, it's just that the shiny new version is also available. Only I think we probably have to say "Blu-Ray" instead of "HD-DVD" now, but my point still stands.

1) Sam Tyler - guessed by swingerzetta and cosmicavatar 2) Dean Winchester - guessed by 47_trek_47, cosmicavatar, and shizuka_blooms 3) Shawn Spencer - guessed by bats_eye and shizuka_blooms 4) The Almighty and Long-suffering Impala - guessed by cosmicavatar and shizuka_blooms 5) Angela Petrelli - guessed by cosmicavatar and shizuka_blooms 6) Juliet O' Hara - guessed by nobody, but then, I suppose she doesn't actually stand out much if you're not actively thinking of her, and she's new to my list 7) Ianto Jones, also guessed by nobody, possibly because he doesn't go much for being showy and distinctive. 8) Monica Dawson - guessed by harena, cosmicavatar, angiepenguin, and shizuka_blooms 9) Cut-Throat Bitch, also known as Amber Volakis - guessed by cosmicavatar and shizuka_blooms 10) Test Card Girl, also known as WTF CREEPY CLOWN DOLL GIRL - guessed by swingerzetta and cosmicavatar
Yeah, so, maybe a few of mine were a bit obscure. But I was running out of Heroes characters. (Someone suggested 3 might be Bela, which--ahahahaha, would be a so very interesting meeting. Poor Shawn. )

Hey hey, person who got me for Remix Redux! Presumably, you are a Heroes writer. It is vaguely, vaguely possible that you might be a Chuck writer, but that wasn't on the list. Although you could choose one of my Chuck stories if you wanted to. But my point is, you probably watch Heroes. If you like Mylar, I've got a couple of those; if Plaude's more your flavor, I've got a couple of those too. If you like the Petrellis, well, uh, I don't need to point out specifics--they're...not hard to find, here. And if you loathe pairings of all kinds, I could point you towards El Laberinto del Destino--although how you'd remix what is essentially a remix itself, I'm not sure--or my more recent Living Forever Is Easy With Eyes Closed, and I'm sure there's a couple others lurking around in there. My point being, it is not entirely Petrelli sexin' going on over here. Actually there's not really all that much sexin' going on period. How does one remix a sex scene? I'm sure I don't want to know.
Because I feel like being helpful, here is a handy list of my non-Heroes stories:
The Thing With The Mirrors, Tin Man, Glitch/Cain, PG-13, 4,081 words Domach 'a chly ghoS 'epagh, Chuck, one-sided Bryce/Chuck, PG-13, 2,482 words Things Bryce Larkin Knows, Chuck, one-sided Bryce/Chuck, R, 1,536 words Being Sam Oliver, Reaper, gen, PG-13, 4,145 words The Name Isn't Always Important, Doctor Who, Doctor/Master, PG-13, 4,921 words
So! Find a story, pick it up, do with it as you will. I can't wait to see what you come up with.
(Now, I just have to do my story....)

I have wrestled this thing to the ground, yo, and it's not even the vid's fault--no, it was entirely the fault of my old laptop, bitter hag that she was, but all that is over now (and trust me, it was quite a lot of all that), and I am done done done. Perhaps I shall get back to writing after this. That would be nice. *glances at 1000 words of 3:10 to Yuma and ponders what to do with them*

So, uh, ahahahah oh my god, apparently the Heroes Slash Awards hit me up for both Best Nathan/Peter (G-PG13), for Develop, and Best Nathan/Peter (R-NC17), for the BDPS, and...well, uh. Okay, I'm going to be egotistical and say that I totally deserved the first one, but I did not deserve the last one. The BDPS, while lovely and long, isn't my strongest story by any means, and it's certainly nowhere near as well-done as, say, A Tiny Platform or Lethe's Shore, neither of which won anything, which--buh? Those are two of the most well-put-together stories I've seen in fandom period, not just in the last six months of Heroes, and they sure as hell deserved something, but...eh, that's the way awards go. Would've been nice to see 47_trek_47 get some love too, though. But now, let's focus on more of the positive: congrats, indyhat, fiorediloto, fantasticpants, selenak, entangled_now, mystery_sock, and all the others who did a damn fine job--and color me deeply amused that the_sc_files got Best Gen, because sure, why not, a story where Peter has lascivious (and horrifying) dreams about Nathan is definitely gen material. Such is life. But then, you know, these are fanfiction awards on the ephemeral Internets; they aren't meant to be taken terribly seriously. It's just for fun. So, in conclusion: hey, sweet, I got an award I deserved, and so did other people! *blows noise-maker*
(And I got a tied runner-up for Best N/P (G-PG13) for It's Sort Of Like Voyeurism, In That It's Exactly Like Voyeurism, which I also find amusing for a number of reasons, not least of which is that the fic it's tied with is one by hackthis, and, uh, at this point I kind of want to cower in a corner because I'm freaking out a little over winning against both her and linaerys, the writers I practically worshiped when I came into the fandom, and it feels like I'm going to be struck by lightning at any moment for my hubris. Truly, it is not easy having yourself a good time.)

Today, I discovered what it is like to listen to porn being read out loud. The answer: mildly disconcerting.
I refer to the recent uprising of podfic, which is to say, books on tape, only they're fics. Now, I never actually listened to one before, because I'm not terribly into books on tape--I prefer being able to look back at the words before, and it's more difficult to figure out who's saying what--but I saw one for Bang, which is one of the most hilarious SGA fics I've ever read, and it was only half an hour, so I figured, why not. And, hey, it's fun! The author has a very pleasant voice, I had no problems keeping up with it, and it's a great story anyway. It also has a sex scene at the end, which was...interesting, but not actually terribly long or all that explicit, so it was only mildly disconcerting. And now I wonder about the possibility of doing one for Develop, since I think Develop would flow nicely that way, but I don't have any recording equipment and I'm not sure what my voice actually sounds like anyway. Perhaps in the future. We shall see.
It's actually really hard to find a .4 second shot of every character in Heroes looking relatively happy and not moving much. Especially Ted. WHY ARE YOU NEVER HAPPY, TED. EVEN ISAAC IS HAPPY.

THINGS THAT ARE GOOD ABOUT 'FLAGPOLE SITTA' AS OPPOSED TO 'EVERY TIME WE TOUCH':
Look, there's lyrics! Lyrics that match stuff! I frequently find that I can't stop sniggering about parts of it. Mmmmm, decided lack of thirty-second instrumentals.
THINGS THAT I DID NOT LIKE ABOUT 'EVERY TIME WE TOUCH':
The lyrics repeat. Must come up with new stuff. The lyric repetition that would be perfect at the end is not at the end. I don't think I'm doing anything terribly original, as there are twelve billion pairing vids in the world, although, see the following point. Techno. Techno. Techno. Techno that must be matched beat-for-beat with a recognizable and unique half-second shot of one or both of our boys. ...this requires somewhere in the vicinity of sixty to seventy of said shots. There are not sixty to seventy of said shots in existence.
A THING THAT DEEPLY AMUSES ME ABOUT 'FLAGPOLE SITTA':
There is a techno section at the end. Admittedly, it only features twenty-nine beats. And it's ensemble, so I only need a .4-second shot of each individual person, which is actually quite possible to put together, even if it takes time to find the perfect shots. And it's pretty much more awesome in every conceivable way.
CONSENSUS: Ahahhahahahahahahahahahahaahhahahahahaha.
BEDTIME NOW: Yes.

Dammit, I want porn. Okay, maybe not really smutty and overly-detailed porn, but I feel like I haven't read a decent sex scene in forever, and this is very strange to me, because I am not really a porn person. I tend to skip past it when it shows up--I have a very specific set of parameters when it comes to sex scenes, and it is hard to find stuff that falls under all of them. It goes: no adjectives or descriptions (some adjectives are okay, but I suspect you can probably guess what I am talking about when it comes to descriptions), nothing particularly kinky (psychological kink, now, that I can get behind, so to speak), must have some kind of plausible build-up and emotional resonance (not as hard to find as the others, but still, not everything has enough of it), and must make some part of me go all wibbly (the hardest to categorize, naturally); needless to say, I'm picky as hell and this makes me kind of sad, because when I really want to find some porn, I can't find any I like. So. I'm lazy. Rec me something. To give you a vague idea of what I do like, well, these are my two stand-bys: entangled_now's Paper and Ink and Unique Sins, which, while both needing visits from the Comma Fairy and both being PG-13, never fail to get me. It may be the unrequited thing. I really, really like the unrequited thing. And see, for me, those are hot, even though neither of them contain much in the way of actual sex; they've got the right level of emotions and characterization with just a little bit of sex, and that makes for a very happy futuresoon. I'm just weird that way.
Of course, none of these rules apply to fics for Live Free or Die Hard, for some reason, so don't rec me anything from there (if any of you even know the fandom); I've already read them all. Seriously. It's a small fandom and once I realized the rules didn't apply, I devoured everything it had and continue to do so. I should probably see the movie at some point. Anyway. If you think you know anything that might fit, send it my way, or even if you think it might sort of fit; I'm really craving Nathan/Peter at the moment, but I suspect some decent Mylar or Plaude would not go amiss, or unrequited!Adam/Hiro, or Bryce/Chuck, or any other pairing you think I'd like. Or House/Kutner. But there isn't any. I checked. There is none. The world doesn't know a good thing when it sees it, I swear.
(Interestingly enough, the anti-LFODH for me is SGA; I pretty much reject porn of any kind from there, regardless of whether it fits into my categories or not. I have not, as of yet, figured out why this is. It may have something to do with not really considering McKay all that attractive, but given how fervently I support the pairing in general--hah, it says something about the SGA fandom that I don't even have to specify what "the pairing" is--I really don't know.)
Another rec in general, because I was re-reading this while I realized I was really craving some porn: thebratqueen's A Tiny Platform, which was written after the first episode of the second season of Heroes but before the second episode of the second season, and thus has been Jossed to a truly spectacular degree, and is pretty much insanely awesome on every conceivable level, and is technically NC-17 but only because of approximately 200 words, exactly two of which could be considered dirty (not counting the swear words), and is the kind of thing that just makes a fan of (temporarily)unrequited!emotionallyresonant!characterization!notparticularlydetailed!sex go wild. My point being: look, I just gave you stuff, now you give me stuff. It's only fair.

The results of the last meme, for your viewing pleasure:
1) Olive Snook - Guessed by wee_warrior and shizuka_blooms 2) John Casey - Guessed by angiepenguin , wee_warrior , and shizuka_blooms 3) Peter Petrelli - Guessed by shizuka_blooms and wee_warrior 4) Gregory House - Guessed by wee_warrior and shizuka_blooms 5) Sarah Jane Smith - Guessed by wee_warrior 6) Martha Jones - Guessed by wee_warrior 7) The Master - Guessed by wee_warrior 8) Owen Harper - Guessed by wee_warrior 9) Adam Monroe - Guessed by shizuka_blooms 10) Jim Profit - Guessed by wee_warrior
I think that I shall call this one the Whoniverse edition. Or perhaps the Bastard edition. And now, the questions and answers, modified with names and pronouns.
(Side note for clarity--Profit is played by Adrian Pasdar, so logically Peter and Adam would have some interesting reactions to seeing him.)

And now, since all the numbers have been guessed, the answers to the character meme:
1) Guessed by wee_warrior and shizuka_blooms: Chuck Bartowski 2) Guessed by eryslash, wee_warrior, shizuka_blooms, and harena: Heidi Petrelli 3) Guessed by shizuka_blooms: Dr. Whatsisface Kutner 4) Guessed by shizuka_blooms: Dr. James Wilson 5) Guessed by shizuka_blooms: Ned 6) Guessed by wee_warrior, harena, and shizuka_blooms: Nathan Petrelli 7) Guessed by wee_warrior, eryslash, and (eventually) shizuka_blooms: Mr. Motherfucking Muggles 8) Guessed by wee_warrior and shizuka_blooms: Bryce Larkin 9) Guessed by wee_warrior: John Winchester 10) Guessed by shizuka_blooms: Ari Gold ( And all the questions asked, with the names filled in, for the sake of amusement... ) God, that was way too much fun. Snow day today! My mom wakes me up, says, "School's canceled, and I think you forgot to turn your alarm on"; both of these turned out to be true. My, that's a lot of snow. Global warming makes weather more extreme, right? Because the last couple years have been way more snowy than normal. I mean, this is late January. Snow in late January does not happen here. Especially not this much. I don't think it'll snow more, but still.
So far during my long day of idleness, I have discovered two things--firstly, that vidding goes by so much faster omg when you are not working with half-second beats of techno (yes, I said I wasn't going to vid again until I got my new laptop, but I lied like a rug); secondly, that my computer hates me and will try to kill me in my sleep. After a certain point, Windows Movie Maker just shut down every time I tried to do just about anything. This made progress difficult. I could handle long pauses, or even having to restart the program, as long as I knew I would get a good bit of work done between restarts, but no, now it just glares viciously at me the moment my cursor hovers over the desktop icon. Three or four manual restarts, plus two I-think-I'm-tired-now-goodbye shutdowns--is it the day that my new laptop arrives yet? No? When is that day? The website said the "build date" would be either February 3rd or February 6th, I forget. Does that mean they start building, or they finish building? How much longer does it take to ship after that? Am I still going to have a functional computer by then? Will I be able to work on my vid at all? Working on this vid makes me happy. It's just so...easy. I suppose that is what happens when you've planned out most of the bits in your head literally months ahead of time. Also I think this is also a very funny vid in general, which is nice. And it's ensemble. So basically it's the entire opposite of Every Time We Touch, and by god that's refreshing.
I'm not sick but I'm not weeeellllll, and I'm so hoooooooooot, 'cause I'm in heeeelllll

Oh, man. The ever-wonderful selenak is running a Six Degrees of Separation meme--basically, name two characters from two different fandoms and she'll write a series of drabbles connecting them--and I asked for Peter Petrelli and Martha Jones, and, augh, she gave me the most wonderful and heart-wrenching thing ever. What do you think the Heroes cast was up to during the missing year? I got chills up my spine all through this, and I even teared up at the end--if you like Doctor Who, and you like Heroes, this cannot be missed. Seriously. Go, now.

Finally finished sending in my votes for the Heroes Slash Awards! I accomplished this by 1) skipping the categories that made me leery, 2) learning how to identify the noms I shouldn't bother reading simply by checking out the first few sentences, and 3) occasionally voting on certain stories just for the spite of it. The Suitcase Files for Best Gen? WHY NOT. If I can be surprised/horrified/deeply, deeply amused about winning an award that makes no sense whatsoever, SO CAN THEY.
(Be forewarned, people who click the above link--it may start out simply looking a bit silly, but it becomes a horrible monster of inexplicably awesome crack. It is at once deeply embarrassing and utterly hysterical, and, like the sidebar says, it will CHANGE YOUR LIFE. Also it's the only Gabriel/Peter* story I've ever really liked, though it may help that they're sixteen** and caught in the midsts of Crackland. Why wasn't this nominated for Best Crack? The world is a mysterious place.)
*Really only subtexty, but still, man, not what I'd call gen, plus there are definite Peter/Nathan bits...also 'gen' has certain connotations of being respectable and intriguing and nonsexual, which, well, ahahahahhaha no.
