Hey, you know who the next Doctor should be if Rusty/Moffat wants to keep the vague trend of hiring a Scotsman and the definite trend of making the show gaytastic? Alan Cumming.

I loved WALL-E until I read a post on my flist detailing the things someone didn't like about it, and now I can't stop thinking about those things because actually they are pretty legitimate things not to like about it, so I'm sort of confused on the whole issue, but I can pretty definitively say that it is

1) Gorgeous
2) Adorable
3) Good
and 4) a little disturbing.

It also has the honor of being perhaps the first movie I've ever seen that made me want to cry in the first five minutes. Not big-dramatic-sad or anything, just one of those kinda heart-squeezy things. Oh, man. You'll know it when you see it.

Besides, the title robot--and the other robots--really are adorable. To perhaps an unhealthy degree.

So, uh, There Will Be Blood. Was it...supposed to be kinda gay? I mean, probably not, movies like that usually aren't meant to have that particular brand of subtext, but Daniel and Eli did seem kinda obsessed with each other and then there was the ending with Eli sobbing about all those horrible non-specific sins he'd committed and, you know, the idea of Daniel Day-Lewis and Paul Dano, while admittedly a little disturbing, is certainly an interesting one. And Eli could totally go on about how the infinite forgiveness of God made it okay if they just repented afterwards, except Daniel would just be like "fuck no" and then they'd just have more angry, manipulative sex and that kind of fucked-up relationship would make quite a logical lead-up to the ending of the movie. It would. You know it would.

If you go by the actors' ages, which are presumably about the same as the characters', you get a 29-year difference, which would be the largest age difference I've ever shipped, not counting anything to do with Doctor Who because that would be like cheating.

I know this is old news to most Whovians, but it's new to me, so I felt compelled to make a few comments on That One Poll About The Companions.

1) Not surprised in the least that Sarah Jane won; very happy, in fact. Sarah Jane is my homegirl. And, I suspect, the homegirl of many.
2) Both surprised and not surprised that Rose got second; on one hand, she's crazy popular, on the other hand, I would've expected Romana II to get it. But Romana II got fifth, which is something, I guess.
3) Yay for Martha overcoming the nay-sayers and at least getting third! Still less than Rose--I wonder what the actual numbers were; I know Sarah Jane got more votes than the next two combined, which is kind of insanely awesome.
4) Ace and Romana II in fourth and fifth; no surprises, although, like I said, I would've thought Romana II would get second. Still, both high-ups.
5) JAMIE IN SIXTH. YES. MORE POPULAR THAN CAPTAIN JACK. Whom I would have expected to score higher than seventh, but I'm still all smug about Jamie, so I'm not thinking about it much.
6) Good to see Leela getting a spot in the top ten, if only barely; a little surprised that Tegan made it, and a bit miffed that the Brigadier didn't quite. Seriously? He couldn't beat Tegan? Admittedly I don't dislike Tegan--most of the time--but the Brig deserved a spot in the top ten. Because he's awesome.
7) Peri was kinda popular, apparently? Huh. That...goes against pretty much everything I've heard about her. Must be the cleavage.
8) Barbara and Zoe: yes. Charley, no idea; same with Turlough. Jo only gets seventeenth? Awww. But it's better than thirty-fifth, I suppose.
9) I'm assuming this was before the fourth season, because there is no way Donna would only get twenty-third if the poll was taken right now.
10) Alas, poor Liz, for having so few episodes, and poor Evelyn and Frobisher, for being audio-only! (I defend them despite never having actually heard them. I'm like that.) I guess Charley's more popular in terms of the audios, given her position as twelfth. Why don't the old lady and the talking penguin outrank the standard human girl? Woe.
11) Sally Sparrow's considered a companion? Huh.
12) Poor, poor Grace. *pets her* It's not her fault she was only used in the crappy, crappy movie.
13) ...Adric got negative points? STOP MAKING ME FEEL BAD, FANDOM. I CAN'T BE THE ONLY PERSON IN THE WORLD WHO KIND OF LIKES HIM.
14) Man, I guess people really hate Ben. I mean, he scored even lower than Adric! And...Mike Yates, for some reason. I never thought about Mike Yates much one way or the other. Maybe that's what killed him.
15) ...Adric got negative points?

I changed the name on my profile from "making future love tonight"--a song lyric utterly unrelated to my username--to "the cries of strange birds"--a quote from the very first episode of Doctor Who: If you could touch the alien sand or hear the cries of strange birds and watch them wheel in another sky...would that satisfy you?

...I just think it's pretty, that's all.

What do I do when I finally get to Five? I make a left turn back to Two. Naturally. Unfortunately, the second disc of The Invasion hasn't been Netflixed yet--and let me tell you, it is awesome, it has those two animated parts where the Doctor looks evil because of his crazy eyebrows and then there's the Brig and Zoe totally gets an adorable photographer girlfriend and even the animators, lacking photographic reference, know that clearly the Doctor and Jamie would be clinging to each other at any available opportunity, so, basically, it is awesome--so I timidly wander out into that particular small, happy area of DW fandom, and there are a lot of great and silly picspams and very ardent declarations of love and oh hey there's a recs list and oh god I ship a pairing I am physically incapable of reading. I get to that point and my brain screeches into reverse. It's even worse than Three/Delgado!Master--which I thoroughly, thoroughly approve of but am made vaguely uneasy by the prospect of reading--because that, I actually can read, but Two/Jamie? No no no. Unfortunate ageist tendencies + disconcerting sense of semi-pedophilia = I find it totally, totally adorable and am a firm believer in season 6b and would gladly espouse its adorable glory to anyone who cared to listen, but I cannot read it.

In largely unrelated news, in two days I will officially have graduated high school. Er. That's...very, very strange. (I've been repeating that phrase a lot lately. It's pretty much the only way I can think of to describe it.)

So--because it's the last school week for seniors (oh god oh god oh god), in history class, we've pretty much just been eating ridiculous amounts of food and doing random stuff. (One girl brought fried rice. Home-made fried rice, y'all. And another brought home-made cake, and the teacher got us a whole ton of donuts, and there's all these chips, and I got brownies, and one girl brought like three different kinds of Oreos and it has been a good past couple days.) Yesterday, it was leaked out that I've never seen Ferris Bueller's Day Off; today, we started to watch it. And...

1) Gosh darnit, Matthew Broderick was cute. I have all these hang-ups about the guy (don't ask), so why is he cute.
2) Regarding Ferris and Cameron: ...I'm a horrible person.

is there nothing that I can look at any more? Nothing?

So, I just finished Logopolis.

And I've also seen, but not written up, Destiny of the Daleks, City of Death, Shada, Meglos, Full Circle, State of Decay, Warrior's Gate, and The Keeper of Traken.

That's rather a lot, isn't it?

I wish I had something terribly interesting to say about all of these things. I did rather like Romana II, and her intro amused the hell out of me (particularly the Doctor's reaction to her "barbarian queen" option--clearly, the idea of Leela with cleavage is unsettling), and she got quite a nice send-off, I thought. Going off to do something productive and important.

You know what I'm going to do? Instead of huge write-ups, I'm just going to say a couple things I liked about each episode. That's easier.

...Five, eh?

...well, let's get on with it, then.

Hot motherfucking damn.

....I'm going to have to get up at, like, 6 AM to get into this, aren't I.

You know, since I'm mentioning Heroes again, I might as well ramble a bit about it. It's weird--I'm so completely into Doctor Who right now that Heroes feels like a foreign entity, something that isn't really connected to me any more, which is almost certainly due to there being no new episodes of Heroes compared to there being eleventy million new (well, to me, anyway) episodes of Doctor Who, but it's still very, very weird. I'm not reading Heroes fic at all any more--even if I see a rec, I just shrug and ignore it. (Whereas I'm devouring Doctor Who recs as if they were delicious pancakes, of course.) And yet, I still wear my helix-symbol necklace every day (shut up), and it's not like I don't like the show any more. It just...isn't a priority, right now.

And then I watch the Sawatte! Kawatte! vid again and something deep down in my heart flails a bit and I realize that, oh yes, it's still there. It's just lurking. Waiting for its chance to strike. And--if all goes well--on July 22nd, it'll finally get its chance.

...*wonders if she can finish the majority of Doctor Who by then*

(Speaking of Doctor Who: hey, I just noticed something. This week's episode, apparently, will be the 200th episode of the series.

...I'm sure they're not going to do anything big at all.)

Subject: and which companion is k-9 most associated with, anyway?
Security: Public
Tags:apparently i really like the master, doctor who, ramblings, yes i am really very odd

A question of sorts, for the few Whofans over here: if a companion goes through more than one Doctor, which Doctor do you associate them with? I, having just watched a few New Who vids featuring Rose, realized that I associate her more with Nine than with Ten; Ten, for me, is more Martha. And then I associate Sarah Jane much more with Four than with Three, although I think I've actually seen more of her episodes with the latter. Jack indisputably goes with Nine in my mind; from what I can tell, Tegan and Nyssa, despite having originated with Four, are very associated with Five, and the same goes for Adric. What about Peri and Mel? All I've heard indicates that Peri is seen as Six's girl, but Seven's is Ace, so does Mel get anyone at all? Do I associate Ben and Polly with Two merely because he's the only one I've seen them with (and even then, not much; just a very crackly audio-and-stills of The Highlanders), or are they actually considered to be more part of One's massive entourage?

(And when we consider the companions who have seen many Doctors--the Brig and Sarah Jane, namely--do we associate them with that at all, or do we still think of them with their primary Doctors, e.g. Three and Four?)

...and is the Master more associated with Three, Five, or Ten?

SO MANY QUESTIONS.

Since I've finally gotten back into writing, after a few false starts (we shall not discuss the 3:10 to Yuma story, nor the Zodiac story, nor especially the Due South/Heroes crossover story), and I'm even taking a nostalgia trip by taking a good look at an even older unfinished story and thinking, "hey, I could totally finish this*", I've logically got writing on my mind, so I shall end this run-on sentence by introducing a meme that seems to be going around:

Ask me a question about one of my fics. It can be absolutely anything in any fic and I will tell you the honest-to-god answer. I can't promise that it'll be interesting, but you'll get a peek into my cracktastic mind!

*I threw an extra thousand words or so on it, pushing it over the 10k mark, but then I remembered why I hadn't finished it--because "finishing this" requires me to, er, write porn--so maybe you will not be seeing the final thing soon, but hey, it's a start! It helps that this is the fic I'm most ashamed for not finishing. I mean, somebody actually paid for it...
